Job Description
The Sr. Configuration Management Engineer will work as part of the Global Institutional Group (GIG) Darwin project to establish and execute CM plan for our new Tibco Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) messaging infrastructure. This will include designing and managing processes for environment control, builds and deployments. This engineer will work closely with architects, technical engineers, and application developers, production support and application rollout associates to ensure the ESB processes meet all audit controls and provides proper segregation of duties.

Qualifications

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Prefer experience with Tibco Suite of products (Administrator, Hawk, TRA, Business Works, EMS, RV)

Enjoys working in a team environment in close cooperation with developers, QA, support, and T&O (infrastructure) associates from many teams.

Ability to effectively multitask.

Good conceptual understanding of SOA concepts, prior experience of working in a highly distributed environment (Web Services, JMS and/or RV messaging).

Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills, especially as it pertains to environment configuration issues

Strong experience with Source Control Management and Configuration Management tools, managing application software baselines, including labeling, branching, versioning, automation.

Strong experience working in a UNIX environment, understanding of *nix OS permissions and access control lists.

Extensive hands-on experience with build and deployment automation, scripting (UNIX shell scripts, Ant, Perl, etc)

Experience in developing and managing messaging environments and code (RV or Tibco BW, EMS) is a plus.

Software development background/training preferred, excellent understanding of SDLC is required.

Bachelors degree in Computer Science or related technical field preferred

Experienced working with Databases (Oracle preferred), DB change deployments, source and version controlling

App Server, 3rd party products, and component builds, source code and version controlling

QA Configuration support & Troubleshooting

Effective writing skills necessary for creating proper documentation of the configuration management processes.

• Guiding, educating and advising customers/integrators on best practice design and implementation decisions based on detailed technical and business understanding across a wide range of deployments.
• Investigate and establish best practices in partnership with all Oracle organizations.
• Provide rapid response and resolution for critical technical issues that may threaten success of the customers’ Siebel and PeopleSoft deployments.

The broader mission statement is to technically support the internal and external Siebel & PeopleSoft community by building and communicating key technical subject matter. This is done by working with Technical Support, Product Marketing, Engineering and Education and will be delivered through technical talks, delta training, formal customer training and Oracle Open World presentations.


Position Description:
The Principal Specialist has achieved the highest level of functional facilitation, team leadership (internal and customer), and technical competence. The technical expertise ranges from configuration, scripting, integration, and various modules of the Peoplesoft product suite.

This PeopleSoft Principal Specialist position is intended to be a high-level leadership role without formal management responsibility within Expert Services (ES).

In addition to performing the traditional customer and internal work typical of Specialists and Senior Specialists, the Principal Specialist will be able to represent Expert Services in one or more of the following situations:

• Lead and shape customers’ implementations by applying business knowledge and deep technical skills.
Lead efforts to plan for, manage, implement, and support project teams.
Often responsible for long term strategic design of customers systems.
Requires specialists to include work with multiple levels of the organization (Project Management, End User, Executives, Technical team to understand the AS-IS system and define the TO-BE system.)
Requires technical consulting skills and project management skills along with strong interpersonal skills which when combined have successfully turned around numerous implementations.
Identify key risks and mitigation strategies that may impact the success of the project
Manage customer relationships and expectations.
Must bridge the gap between business users and technical teams during design/analysis sessions.
Will be required to lead sessions.
Understand Technical/Functional direction of the product
Develop trusted advisor relationship with key personnel at the customer/integrator
Must show consistent leadership to customer while engaged.
• Maintain long-term consistent relationships with customers to bring leadership throughout their implementation phases.
• Act as primary liaison between Oracle and customer where there is no Technical Account Manager (TAM) and sometimes where there is a TAM.
• Self directed.
Will manage one’s own schedule and projects with limited input from management.
Will be managing numerous customers at one time.
Will need to support other specialists and their customer’s detailed design efforts.
Due to project requirements and internal team requirements driven by the needs of the customer the specialists must be flexible with their availability. Their thought leadership is regularly required during “off” hours.
o Flexibility in leading customers in various time zones is also required.
• Lead and mentor consultants/customers/integrators/specialist.
• Provide regular reviews of customer’s current implementation with a detailed list of issues and recommendations
• Internal Initiatives:
o Taking responsibility for development of a practice area within their discipline
o Taking additional lead roles as defined by ES management as necessary and vital to the leadership of the group.
o Understand Technical/Functional direction of the product
o Suggests ideas for improvements to process, deliverables, methodology, best practices, training and career development. And leads these efforts
o Responsible for Quality Reviews of other Specialists’ work.
• Lead SWAT team initiatives for Peoplesoft Implementations
o Organizes all internal resources/efforts.
o Demonstrates ability to present to senior level customer executives and project members.
o Will escalate issues across multiple business units and drive an issue to resolution.
o Prioritizes the use of time and resources for the achievement of business goals.
o Identifies critical risks in plans and creates alternative plans as needed. Responds proactively and demonstrates flexibility in changing priorities.

Description


GENERAL SUMMARY
WAN/LAN networks including communications links, network consoles and files, e mail, and the general hardware environment. Maintains network reliability and produces utilization reports and analysis by using network and PC based software. Assists the Network Administrator in design and management support that includes configuration and maintenance of hardware, software, technical documentation and procedures. Is also responsible for providing first level Help Desk problem determination and support to the end-user community.

• Must be available on an on-call basis for after hours support.
• Provide Level 1 Help Desk support, when necessary, with efficient handling of customer problems, filling out required logs and tickets, notify appropriate IT personnel - if needed.
• Interview users, analyze user concerns, review procedures and actions taken by user, and instructs user to perform diagnostic procedures in order to determine and complete the resolution/escalation of the user’s concern.
• Interprets and references user manuals and operational instructions during problem resolution in order to educate the user community.
• Configure new routers, switches, and network equipment and also has the ability to modify existing equipment.
• Open trouble tickets with vendors to fix problems.
• Trouble shoots all connectivity problems.
• Performs all administrative duties related to computer equipment, such as inventory, problem tracking, new equipment status, etc.
• Assists the Network Administrator in maximizing PC and Network performance.
• Running and monitoring back-ups of the LAN/WAN environment.
• Assists the Network Administrator in the evaluation, test, and recommendation of hardware, software, and diagnostic tools.
• To be involved in the training of new hires helping to provide initial overview and ensuring that they become efficient at the more technical aspects of their job.
• Works with the Network Administrator to determine the amount of equipment to have in inventory to keep the network and user community working at optimal performance.
• Keeps abreast of current technology by reviewing current periodicals and journals that are applicable.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Support computer operations, as required. This includes working as a backup to the 2nd Shift Computer Operator as needed and required.

• Must be familiar with Internet, Intranet, and WEB technology.
