PeopleSoft Principal Specialist (HRMS/HCM) - Expert Services

Do you love troubleshooting customer issues? Are you a guru with one or more of the Peoplesoft product lines? Do you enjoy working with many different customers on short-term engagements? Would you enjoy working in a leadership role to start a new organization and create offerings sold to customers?

If so, Expert Services is looking for you! We are starting a PeopleSoft practice and are looking for a talented, creative, technical/functional PeopleSoft consultant to join us. The role will include working with a small team to define the offerings we will make available to customers, perform the offerings for customers and help us to grow the group with additional PeopleSoft specialists. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced PeopleSoft consultant looking for a leadership role.


Department Description:
Expert Services uses technical expertise and experience from over thousands of Siebel and PeopleSoft implementations to reduce risk by providing advice on best practice methods. Experts conduct configuration and architectural reviews throughout the Siebel and PeopleSoft implementation and are available to offer pragmatic solutions to specific and highly complex technical challenges.

The mission of Expert Services is to ensure 100% customer success by supporting the delivery of expected levels of functionality, performance, integrity and upgradeability from the customized Siebel and PeopleSoft implementation. This is done by:
• Guiding, educating and advising customers/integrators on best practice design and implementation decisions based on detailed technical and business understanding across a wide range of deployments.
• Investigate and establish best practices in partnership with all Oracle organizations.
• Provide rapid response and resolution for critical technical issues that may threaten success of the customers’ Siebel and PeopleSoft deployments.

The broader mission statement is to technically support the internal and external Siebel & PeopleSoft community by building and communicating key technical subject matter. This is done by working with Technical Support, Product Marketing, Engineering and Education and will be delivered through technical talks, delta training, formal customer training and Oracle Open World presentations.


Position Description:
The Principal Specialist has achieved the highest level of functional facilitation, team leadership (internal and customer), and technical competence. The technical expertise ranges from configuration, scripting, integration, and various modules of the Peoplesoft product suite.

This PeopleSoft Principal Specialist position is intended to be a high-level leadership role without formal management responsibility within Expert Services (ES).

In addition to performing the traditional customer and internal work typical of Specialists and Senior Specialists, the Principal Specialist will be able to represent Expert Services in one or more of the following situations:

• Lead and shape customers’ implementations by applying business knowledge and deep technical skills.
Lead efforts to plan for, manage, implement, and support project teams.
Often responsible for long term strategic design of customers systems.
Requires specialists to include work with multiple levels of the organization (Project Management, End User, Executives, Technical team to understand the AS-IS system and define the TO-BE system.)
Requires technical consulting skills and project management skills along with strong interpersonal skills which when combined have successfully turned around numerous implementations.
Identify key risks and mitigation strategies that may impact the success of the project
Manage customer relationships and expectations.
Must bridge the gap between business users and technical teams during design/analysis sessions.
Will be required to lead sessions.
Understand Technical/Functional direction of the product
Develop trusted advisor relationship with key personnel at the customer/integrator
Must show consistent leadership to customer while engaged.
• Maintain long-term consistent relationships with customers to bring leadership throughout their implementation phases.
• Act as primary liaison between Oracle and customer where there is no Technical Account Manager (TAM) and sometimes where there is a TAM.
• Self directed.
Will manage one’s own schedule and projects with limited input from management.
Will be managing numerous customers at one time.
Will need to support other specialists and their customer’s detailed design efforts.
Due to project requirements and internal team requirements driven by the needs of the customer the specialists must be flexible with their availability. Their thought leadership is regularly required during “off” hours.
o Flexibility in leading customers in various time zones is also required.
• Lead and mentor consultants/customers/integrators/specialist.
• Provide regular reviews of customer’s current implementation with a detailed list of issues and recommendations
• Internal Initiatives:
o Taking responsibility for development of a practice area within their discipline
o Taking additional lead roles as defined by ES management as necessary and vital to the leadership of the group.
o Understand Technical/Functional direction of the product
o Suggests ideas for improvements to process, deliverables, methodology, best practices, training and career development. And leads these efforts
o Responsible for Quality Reviews of other Specialists’ work.
• Lead SWAT team initiatives for Peoplesoft Implementations
o Organizes all internal resources/efforts.
o Demonstrates ability to present to senior level customer executives and project members.
o Will escalate issues across multiple business units and drive an issue to resolution.
o Prioritizes the use of time and resources for the achievement of business goals.
o Identifies critical risks in plans and creates alternative plans as needed. Responds proactively and demonstrates flexibility in changing priorities.
