GENERAL SUMMARY
WAN/LAN networks including communications links, network consoles and files, e mail, and the general hardware environment. Maintains network reliability and produces utilization reports and analysis by using network and PC based software. Assists the Network Administrator in design and management support that includes configuration and maintenance of hardware, software, technical documentation and procedures. Is also responsible for providing first level Help Desk problem determination and support to the end-user community.
• Must be available on an on-call basis for after hours support.
• Provide Level 1 Help Desk support, when necessary, with efficient handling of customer problems, filling out required logs and tickets, notify appropriate IT personnel - if needed.
• Interview users, analyze user concerns, review procedures and actions taken by user, and instructs user to perform diagnostic procedures in order to determine and complete the resolution/escalation of the user’s concern.
• Interprets and references user manuals and operational instructions during problem resolution in order to educate the user community.
• Configure new routers, switches, and network equipment and also has the ability to modify existing equipment.
• Open trouble tickets with vendors to fix problems.
• Trouble shoots all connectivity problems.
• Performs all administrative duties related to computer equipment, such as inventory, problem tracking, new equipment status, etc.
• Assists the Network Administrator in maximizing PC and Network performance.
• Running and monitoring back-ups of the LAN/WAN environment.
• Assists the Network Administrator in the evaluation, test, and recommendation of hardware, software, and diagnostic tools.
• To be involved in the training of new hires helping to provide initial overview and ensuring that they become efficient at the more technical aspects of their job.
• Works with the Network Administrator to determine the amount of equipment to have in inventory to keep the network and user community working at optimal performance.
• Keeps abreast of current technology by reviewing current periodicals and journals that are applicable.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Support computer operations, as required. This includes working as a backup to the 2nd Shift Computer Operator as needed and required.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
• Working knowledge of MS Windows, MS Word, MS Excel
• Knowledge of general business terminology and principles
• Working knowledge of LAN, TCP/IP Protocol, WAN

• Detailed knowledge of end-user computer systems, network equipment, and various commands used within products to provide support to the end-users.

EDUCATION/TRAINING/EXPERIENCE
• Associates Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or at least 21 hours of equivalent educational hours in computer science or equivalent computer industry experience.
• Have basic knowledge in the configuration of network routers.
• Two years experience supporting the following: WIN95 or 98, Novell V 4.xx and higher, and GroupWise
• Must have basic knowledge of network interfaces, network wiring, and Novell Netware software as it relates to the proper setup and configuration of clients (e.g. CISCO, Frame Relay, TCP/IP, Ethernet, etc.).
• Must be familiar with Internet, Intranet, and WEB technology.
PREFERRED
Transportation and/or Warehousing experience a plus
TRAVEL
This position will require approximately 20% travel.
